Description:  A nice pair which show how steam was used for other applications in the Guilded Age besides locomotives (and note that these almost literal iron horses resemble old steam locomotive designs). Both of these were built around the turn of the 20th Century.

Description:  but keep in mind, that private operation of a steam boiler on wheels is likely subject to strict liability due to being very dangerous - these things have been known to explode and also pose a potential fire risk. Of course, so have steam locomotives which is why in law school, they used to (and likely still do, I only graduated 5 years ago) teach assignment of risk in tort law using steam locomotives and fires (which was a very common occurrence during the steam locomotive era before laws required the row to be clear of vegetation). That is why old railroad right of ways are so much wider than the tracks - it was to keep the tracks clear to avoid brush and forest fires.

Description:  As a child, I called these things Woo Woos because of their steam whistles. Actually, their whistles are very similar to those on steam locomotives and they do look like small steam locomotives. 19th Century Technology still operating in the 21st.

Description:  Personally, these things have always kind of scared me - steam locomotives have to go through vigorous inspection to be used, but these things are very similar, but don't have to have any sort of inspection to make sure that the boiler is okay to operate. A few years ago, one of these things exploded in Ohio killing 4 people. They are still pretty cool to see in operation, but I definitely keep a distance away from them
